The 38th state admited to the Union. Colorado is the only state that is located entirely 1000 meters or more above sea level. Colorado was also the very first state to grant women the right to vote. The state income tax in Colorado is a flate 4.63% regardless of income level however Colorado taxes are based on taxable income not the adjusted gross income like most other states. Colorado has 7 of the nations 100 largest natural gas fields and 2 of the nations 100 largest oil fields. Colorado accounts for more than 5% of the annual US natural gas production. The oil shale deposits in Colorado hold an estimated 1 trillion barrels of oil, which is equal to the worlds proven oil reserves but oil production from oil shale is speculative.

The 45th state admited to the Union. Something like 80% of the people who live in Utah live around Salt Lake City leaving a large part of Utah uninhabited. Which is probably the reason there is always spotty mobile phone service in this crazy state. Utah was however the fastest growing state in the United States in 2008 and St. George, Utah has been listed as the fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States from 2000 through 2005. Another interesting fact about Utah is that Utah is one of only three U.S. states that have only lines of latitude and longitude for boundaries the other two states are Colorado and Wyoming.
